“Why do you write?”
It sounded like a simple question. But when someone I deeply admire asked me that, I felt something shift inside me. It wasn’t just a question—it was a mirror, reflecting back my deepest intentions as a writer.
That one moment reminded me that writing is not just a hobby or talent—it’s a responsibility. One I carry with hope, conviction, and purpose.
Writing as a Calling: My Three Anchors
1. Truth (Journalism)
As a student journalist, I’ve come to see truth as sacred. Journalism gives me a voice to uncover and share the realities that shape our communities. Whether I’m covering a campus protest, interviewing a changemaker, or highlighting social issues—I write to inform and awaken.
2. Imagination (Fiction)
Fiction is where I escape, reflect, and rebuild. It’s in stories that I walk in other people’s shoes, experience what they feel, and try to help others do the same. It’s where empathy is born. I write fiction not just to entertain, but to reveal unseen truths of the human spirit.
3. Justice (Advocacy)
Stories can be weapons against injustice. Advocacy writing lets me challenge harmful norms, amplify silenced voices, and imagine solutions. I believe writing can inspire action—and I aim to write with that fire.
“I write because words let me serve three callings at once: truth, imagination, and justice.”

To the mentor who asked me “Why do you write?” — thank you. You didn’t just spark a conversation. You sparked a fire. That one question made me pause, reflect, and return to my path with even more clarity.
To my readers and fellow storytellers: May you also find your voice. And when you do, use it. The world is listening.
