Every new semester begins with strong promises:
> “I must attend all my lectures this time!”
“No more lateness.”
“I’ll study at night and avoid distractions.”
But by the third or fourth day, the same excuses start creeping in:
> “I slept late, I couldn’t wake up.”
“The bus I entered delayed me.”
“NEPA took light; I couldn’t read.”
For many students in our college who live off-campus, the struggle is real. There’s house chores, noisy neighbours, transport wahala, and even poor electricity — all standing between us and those “New Me” goals.

The Commute Life
It’s different from schools where students live in hostels. Here, we rush from home to school every morning, sometimes spending hours in traffic or struggling to get transport fare. And after lectures, we return to family duties — cooking, errands, or even helping out with younger siblings.
So keeping those “perfect student” goals is not as easy as it looks.

Still Worth Trying
That said, we shouldn’t give up. Even if you’re not reading 5 hours a day or attending every lecture yet — it’s the intention and consistency that matters. Maybe this semester, your growth is just coming 10 minutes earlier than last, or completing your notes before the test week.
Small steps. Real wins.
